Past Puppies
Our breed of havanese puppies
The Havanese is a wonderful breed that loves people, especially children. They are considered a toy breed, measuring between 8 1/2 to 11 1/2 inches at the shoulder. They usually weigh between 9 – 17 pounds, sometimes more, sometimes less.
They excel in obedience and agility. They love learning tricks and new things. They are extremely smart and learn quickly if they understand what you want. Clicker training works well for the Havanese during training. I recommend a clicker training book and the clicker as one of the first things you purchase.
The Havanese is happiest when they are part of your family, They can become shy and standoffish if not enough interaction with the family is experienced, so they are not a dog to be purchased to decorate your back yard. If socialized properly they make wonderful therapy dogs as they love attention and affection. The Havanese is a long-haired nonshedding breed with no dog odor.
The Havanese is a perfect breed for people with allergies as most people are not allergic to Havanese. Since they are nonshedding they do mat and require brushing several times a week to keep them tangle-free.
The Havanese coat can be kept in a puppy cut which makes grooming much easier. Havanese don’t bark much and they stick close to home. Havanese are very hardy and healthy with very few health issues. The main ones being early onset cataracts, patellar lunation, aseptic necrosis of the femur head, heart murmur. Most are rare and non-life threatening.
